In keeping with our mission to protect health, prevent illness, and promote wellness, through a grant awarded
to us by the Illinois Department of Public Health - Office of Health Promotion, we offer genetic screens to women seen in
our WIC/FCM clinic.
A screen serves to obtain information from the client about themselves, their partners, and both
of their families in relation to any histories of abnormal features, growth patterns, blood disorders, etc... Clients found
to have significant risk factors are referred to Jackson County Health Department (Begining September, 2003 the Jefferson
County Health Department will begin it's own referal clinic in conjunction with Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital) where
they might see a geneticist or a genetic counselor depending on their circumstances.
Referrals to Division of Specalized
Care for Children (DSCC) and early intervention agencies are made as necessary and needed.
Education and referrals
are provided to all newborns, children and adults along with their families in need of these services.
